The Joburg Shopping Festival has always been a proud supporter of local fashion talent. This year, we took it to the next level with our Love Local Design pop-ups, beginning on the last day of the festival. After a second pop-up at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre on 15 October, our fabulous crew of young up-and-coming designers made such a splash that the mall asked them to return – this time for the whole festive shopping season!
The ten designers participating in the Love Local Design pop-up showcase will be bringing flair to Tshwane until 31 January 2017. Apart from some familiar faces from our #LoveLocalFashion pop-up on 9 August this year, we also have some of the bright sparks who have since joined the Love Local Design family. Let’s meet them…
Designer Refentse Motsepe is the talent behind Artistic Gusto, a fashion design house that offers design and consultancy services. They focus on womenswear, both traditional and modern, for weddings and proms, as well as casual everyday attire, but menswear is also available on request. Nubian Haute was founded by mother of two Ayanda Moutloatse a few months after her divorce. Her daughters inspire her not only in fashion but also in her work to uplift young women in her community. The label is inspired by the modern South African woman, bringing a unique local flavor to both casual occasions and the corporate world. Shona Accra is a Afrocentric brand that specializes mainly in African print clothing, shoes and accessories for men, women and children. Cofounder and designer Tracy Ndlovu is inspired by the diversity of African cultures. They believe in the spirit of Ubuntu and embracing our culture through our designs.
